Many people either already know or can figure out how to set up a blog because well… it’s easy. But what most first-time bloggers struggle with is knowing how to drive traffic to their blog. So I’m going to show you the same techniques that I’ve used to increase traffic to my blog by over 500% each consecutive month.
1. Leverage Social Media
Start with mastering Twitter and Facebook marketing. I’ve already written a blog post on getting Twitter followers entitled “Get a Flood of Twitter Traffic the Easy Way” and also on getting Facebook fans entitled “3 Easy Ways to Get Traffic to your Facebook Page”. After you’ve learned to create a system to gain followers systematically look into the app called "RSS Graffiti". By following this link and taking only a few seconds to sign-up for free you then have the option of having all your blog posts sent directly to your Facebook page automatically. Make sure your Twitter account is synced with your Facebook page so that your blog posts can be automatically updated to your Twitter followers as well.
2. Do a Giveaway
This one technique has gotten me more traffic than any other method I’ve ever used. All you need is a product that people want (typically $50 value or greater) if you want people to participate. If you’re popular enough, people actually approach you for a giveaway to products to their site. However, since you’re just getting started that’s not likely to happen so what you can do instead is begin looking for sponsors. It’s really an easy thing to do; just explain what you’re doing and most people are more than willing to help. Or if you’re nervous or want to try something different, purchase an item yourself and advertise that for a giveaway. Just be sure to keep the way of entry simple. If people have to jump through several hoops to enter in the giveaway, it’s not likely anyone will enter and they won’t be returning to your blog anytime soon either.

The amazing thing about us as human beings is that we always want to help others in someway. The incredible phenomenon is that when I don’t ask people to share my content, they rarely do. But when I do ask people to share, I get a much bigger response (pst! That’s your hint to share this post). You don’t even need to have a pitch of any kind, just ask! You’ll be astounded at what people will do for you.
4. Have Quality Content
Sharing something that others want to read about is the best way to gain and keep followers. With quality content your readers are more likely to share what it is that you have to write about. The best way to do this is to put a unique spin on an old, overused topic or to write something totally random. Be creative, use your imagination and have fun!
5. Be Consistent
People will only keep coming back to your blog if you are consistently reminding them to. Your readers should never have to worry what happened to you. If you’re going on a vacation where there’s absolutely no internet access anywhere, then let your readers know! Otherwise your readers will assume you’ve forgotten about them and they’ll inevitably forget about you too.
Conclusion
That’s it! It’s that simple. Keep in mind however, that even though you may do everything right from a marketing standpoint, that doesn’t mean you’re going to instantly get a flood of traffic coming into your blog. Remember like with any business it takes time to create a following and customer base. You may not see results immediately, but over time you will begin to see rewards from your consistent efforts.
